【Member News】A New Era of Gallium Oxide - Chinese Graduate Student Creation "Core" Competition

  On August 4, the final roadshow and award ceremony of the "Huawei Cup" 5th China Graduate Innovation "Core" Competition concluded at the Hangzhou International Science and Technology Innovation Center (hereinafter referred to as the Science and Technology Innovation Center) of Zhejiang University. Experts in the integrated circuit industry and outstanding young students from major universities, enterprises and scientific research institutions across the country jointly witnessed the birth of the Star of "Core", marking a successful end to the competition.

  This competition is jointly organized by the Science and Technology Innovation Center and the Micro-nano Institute of Electronics. The competition aims to serve the development strategy of the national integrated circuit industry, promote the development of industry-education integration and collaborative education, guide the majority of graduate students to inherit and carry forward the spirit of scientists, effectively improve the ability of scientific research and innovation, and become the future leaders of the integrated circuit industry. The final consists of computer design, on-site written test, group defense, final roadshow and other links. During the competition, the university-enterprise cooperation docking meeting, micro-nano academic festival, talent market, enterprise visit and other activities were also held simultaneously to actively assist the integration of integrated circuit industry and education and the introduction of high-end talents.

  The organizing committee, executive committee, special committee, experts and scholars in the integrated circuit industry, enterprise representatives, participating teachers and students, attended the event, as well as Yang Deren, an academician of the CAS Member and chief scientist of the Science and Technology Innovation Center, Professor Jin Baosheng, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Degree and Graduate Education, Zhao Yu, Deputy Secretary General, Chen Jian, Deputy Director of the Organization Department of the Hangzhou Municipal Party Committee and Executive Deputy Director of the Talent Office of the Hangzhou Municipal Party Committee, Yang Liuchun, Deputy Director of the Hangzhou Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology, Professor Wang Zhihua, Executive Director of the China Graduate Creation "Core" Competition Professor Zhou Zucheng, the initiator of the China Graduate Electronic Design Competition, Professor Wang Qingqing, the director of the Graduate Training Division of the Graduate School of Zhejiang University, Wang Aimeng, the director of the Competition Management Department of Huawei.

  After fierce competition, the Star of Creating "Core", which attracted the public attention, was finally won by three graduate teams from Shanghai Jiaotong University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology and Xi'an University of Electronic Technology. The Microelectronics College of Xi'an University of Electronic Science and Technology is the member unit of the Alliance. The award-winning work of the "Gallium Oxide Team" under the guidance of Professor Zhou Hong of the College of Microelectronics and Academician Hao Yue of Xidian is "Research on Gallium Oxide High Power Diodes and Field Effect Transistors". This work is oriented to ultra-wide band gap semiconductor gallium oxide materials. It systematically studies gallium oxide Schottky barrier diodes, heteropn junctions, horizontal junction field effect transistors and vertical finfet power devices. With continuous innovation in structure design and device technology development, the prepared Ga₂O₃ based diodes and field effect transistors have reached the highest international standards, providing more excellent solutions for the future power grid, electric traction, electric vehicles and high-power weapons and equipment, which has great social value and academic significance in the military and civil fields.

  With the support of the science and technology innovation center of the organizer, the competition added the incentive part of venture capital intention for the first time. Three teams from Zhejiang University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and Xi'an University of Electronic Technology received a total of 10 million yuan of incentive for venture capital intention.
