On October 28, the 6th Round Table of the Future Industrial Technology Foresight and Chongqing Layout Strategy series of "Innovation and Chongqing Discussion" Salon, co-sponsored by the Municipal Science and Technology Bureau and our Institute, was successfully held in the Innovation Book Bar of our Institute. The theme of this salon is "the third/fourth generation semiconductor technology Foresight and Chongqing industrial layout Strategy". Hao Yue, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shen Bo, deputy director of the Science Department of Peking University, and Huang Xing, chairman of PN Junction Semiconductor (Hangzhou) Co., Ltd. respectively made keynote reports on the present situation, progress and prospect of the third and fourth generation semiconductor technology. They believe that the third generation semiconductor technology represented by Silicon Carbide and Gallium Nitride has been more mature, is one of the core supporting technologies of "new infrastructure" and "Made in China 2025", and is also the competitive field of future frontier technologies, but to improve yield and reduce costs is the current problem to be solved. Gallium Oxide is currently one of the main materials with the potential to become the fourth generation semiconductor technology, which can be used for high-voltage, low-loss, high-power electronic devices. Theoretically, the power loss is about 1/3400 of silicon materials and 1/10 of Silicon Carbide. It is also the focus of major enterprises competing for layout. But its substrate material quality is not high, P-type doping difficulty and low thermal conductivity are the three major problems. The commercialization of large-scale industrialization there is still a large distance. At the same time, it is also believed that Chongqing's talent training in semiconductor is a short board, and the advantages of semiconductor talent training in Chongqing colleges and universities are not obvious.
