      Wang Gang, an alumnus of Jilin University and internationally renowned semiconductor optoelectronics expert, has been named a lifetime Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA) in June 2024. In December 2023, with the support of Jilin Provincial Institute of Science and Technology Innovation, Wang Gang returned to his hometown Jilin to carry out research on key technologies of Gallium Oxide power electronic chip industry.

      Wang Gang graduated from Jilin University in 1991, majoring in semiconductor physics and devices, and went overseas for further study in 1994. He is currently the director of the Research Institute of Sun Yat-sen University in Foshan City and the director of the National and Local Joint Engineering Laboratory of Semiconductor Lighting Materials and Devices. He has been engaged in the research of wide band gap semiconductor optoelectronics and power electron epitaxy materials, devices and MOCVD equipment for a long time, and won the National industry-University-research Innovation Achievement Award twice in 2015 and 2019. In April 2022, the self-developed project of "Large-size Gallium Oxide single crystal film heteroepitaxy growth technology and core equipment" was selected into the "Science and Technology China" pilot technology list released by the China Association for Science and Technology. In the past five years, Academician Wang Gang has led the team to focus on the fourth generation of ultra-wide band gap Gallium Oxide semiconductor epitaxy materials and power electronic chip "neck" technology, and the mass production Gallium Oxide MOCVD epitaxy equipment developed has reached the international leading level.

      In December 2023, with the support of Jilin Provincial Institute of Science and Technology Innovation, Academician Wang Gang led the scientific research team back to Jilin Province to start a business, founded Changchun ZhongXin Microelectronics Technology Co., LTD in Changchun, and relied on Jilin Provincial Innovation Research Institute to build a professional institute of ultra-wide band gap semiconductor materials and devices and provincial key laboratory. The team focuses on the research and development of fourth-generation compound semiconductors. Actively carry out the key technology research of Gallium Oxide power electronics industry, and contribute more wisdom and strength to Jilin.
