      On November 4, 2024, the symposium on "Gallium Oxide Materials and Devices" of Journal of Synthetic Crystal and the National Key Research and Development Program project was successfully held on the picturesque Anding Mountain in Fuyang, Hangzhou.  The editor of Journal of Synthetic Crystal, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Nanjing University professor Shi-ning Zhu, consultant of Journal of Synthetic Crystal, chief expert of SINOMA Advanced Materials Co., Ltd., Cunxin Huang, professor level senior engineer, executive editor of Journal of Synthetic Crystal Zhenzhen Peng, director of the Hangzhou Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics HongJi Qi, professor of Shandong University, Zhitai Jia, professor of Xiamen University, Hongliang Zhang, professor of Fudan University, Hongliang Lu, researcher from University of Science and Technology of China, Guangwei Xu, researcher from University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Jie Wei. As well as from the 46th Research Institute of China Electronics Technology Group Corporation, the 55th Research Institute of China Electronics Technology Group Corporation, Xidian University, Dalian University of Technology, Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen), Hubei Jiufengshan Laboratory, Xiamen University, International Science and ZJU-Hangzhou Global Scientific and Technological Innovation Center, Shandong University, Tiangong University, Sun Yat-sen University, Institute of Semiconductors, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology, and other national universities.       As the fourth-generation semiconductor materials, Gallium Oxide crystals have attracted much attention for their ultra-wide bandgap and high voltage characteristics. In recent years, remarkable progress has been made in the research of Gallium Oxide crystals and devices, with crystal sizes repeatedly breaking records, crystal growth methods being innovated, defects and doping studies gradually deepened, and device design and preparation methods continuously optimized, which has become a research hotspot in the field of ultra-wide bandgap semiconductors.  It is in this context, the editorial board of Journal of Synthetic Crystal planning organized “Gallium Oxide Materials and Devices” special topic (published in the second issue of 2025), aiming to display the important progress in related fields and the latest achievements both domestic and international, provides beneficial reference for domestic counterparts.

      The topic covers four research directions of Gallium Oxide materials and devices: single crystal growth, defect and doping studies, thin film epitaxy, device preparation. It is edited by scholars with outstanding achievements and extensive academic influence in this field, including researcher Hongji Qi, professor Zhitai Jia, professor Hongliang Zhang, professor Xin Dong (Jilin University), professor level senior engineer Hongjuan Cheng (the 46th Research Institute of China Electronics Technology Group Corporation), professor Hong Zhou (Xidian University), researcher Guangwei Xu. The organization of the topic and the symposium was highly affirmed and appreciated by Academician Shining Zhu, the chief editor, who made a special trip to the meeting and issued certificates to the guest editors.

      Researcher Hongji Qi, editorial board member and guest editor of Journal of Synthetic Crystal, presided over the symposium. On behalf of Hangzhou Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics and Hangzhou Fujia Gallium Technology Co., LTD., the organizing units of this meeting, he extended a warm welcome to all the experts coming from afar, and pointed out that the Journal of Synthetic Crystal, as a high-level academic science and technology journal that publishes research achievements in the field of synthetic crystals in China, has extremely high academic value and influence. Especially in recent years, it has played a huge role in promoting academic exchanges and promoting industrial development. The Journal of Synthetic Crystal, relying on the "Synthetic Crystal Materials Youth Academic Conference" sponsored by the Young Editorial Board, has shown a high degree of professionalism and academics, and has played a cohesive role in the field of Synthetic Crystal in China. In addition, Hongji Qi introduced to the participating experts the current manuscript collection of the topic, as well as the development status and future development trend of Hangzhou Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics.

      Zhenzhen Peng, executive editor of Journal of Synthetic Crystal, introduced the background of the topic planning to the participating experts and scholars with the theme of "Telling the Story of Chinese Crystals ". She summarized the background of the topic with two terms: "At the Right Time" and "In the Right Place". " At the Right Time" refers to the urgent need of the topic for the current technological development of Gallium Oxide and industrial demand; " In the Right Place" means that as the only professional academic journal dedicated to disseminating Synthetic Crystal knowledge and promoting Synthetic Crystal communication in the field, Journal of Synthetic Crystal is the most appropriate journal to organize this topic. Combined with the background, she also systematically introduced the purpose of the journal is to "Prosper Academics and Serve the Industry", as well as Academician Shi-ning Zhu as chief editor of the 7th Editorial Board has been established in promoting academic exchange and the development of the service industry outstanding work in 2019. Peng would like to express sincere thanks to Hangzhou Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics for organizing this meeting and to all the guest editors and contributors who participated in the organization and compilation of this topic.

      At the symposium, the experts had extensive exchanges on the invited manuscripts of the special group and various problems encountered in the research process of Gallium Oxide materials and devices. Researcher Hongji Qi proposed that all representative units can voice on the topic, and everyone can work together to organize a high-level special issue. Professor Zhitai Jia proposed that scientific and technological personnel should publish good research results in the special issue, and truly help domestic technological progress and industry development. Guangwei Xu pointed out that the continuous trial and error of Gallium Oxide devices in turn promote the continuous progress of material technology, and the publication of the topic is undoubtedly the best communication platform for upstream and downstream collaboration and interaction, and expressed active support and promotion of the publication of the topic. Professor Lu Hongliang also suggested that the Gallium Oxide industry should form an upstream and downstream linkage, and some small salon activities can be held on the platform of journals. At the symposium, the atmosphere was warm, and everyone freely exchanged the latest technical progress and views, and was full of expectations for the publication of the topic.

      Professor Cunxin Huang first pointed out that the current good era of Gallium Oxide has come, with national attention, local support, and active participation of researchers, and some research and industry have achieved milestone results. The Journal of Synthetic Crystal closely follows the pace of development, and while actively releasing relevant research and industrial achievements, it organizes special topics for academic and technical discussion, which will further promote the development of Gallium Oxide scientific research and industry. He also pointed out that Fuyang, as the blessed place of Journal of Synthetic Crystal, hosted the third Synthetic Crystal Materials Youth Academic Conference on an unprecedented scale in the past 2023, and now the Gallium Oxide symposium is held here, which will undoubtedly be another pioneering effort in the development process of Journal of Synthetic Crystal.

      Academician Shining Zhu also highly affirmed the "At the Right Time" and "In the Right Place" of the topic, as well as the importance of the symposium. He pointed out that the establishment of the 7th Editorial Board of the Journal of Synthetic Crystals in 2019 coincided with the important period of rapid development of the field of intraocular crystals to meet the major needs of the country. From journals published to symposium organization and special topic planning, the Journal of Synthetic Crystals has gathered experts from three generations in the field through the joint efforts of its editorial board members and professionals from both the scientific and industrial sectors, already collected field bring together three generations. Formed a good ecological circle that  effectively promoted the field of basic research and industrial development; As the fourth generation of semiconductor Gallium Oxide is not only the continuation of history, but also an expansion of the material of bandgap, its importance is self-evident in the modern intelligent era, however, numerous challenges still exist in the process of its development, and the Journal of Synthetic Crystals organize this special topic and symposium is just " At the Right Time ". He asked everyone to make full use of the communication platform of Journal of Synthetic Crystals, highly affirmed the significance of the symposium organized by Hangzhou Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, and had expectations and confidence in the future development of Gallium Oxide industry. He said that at present domestic all walks of life are involution, stand at the height of industry, the meeting is of great significance. He hoped that participants would take this opportunity to planning the future of Gallium Oxide together, build a new ecological Gallium Oxide industry, and use the word that " stand on the top and see in one encompassing vision " to encourage the young scholars dare to take on important responsibilities and fully promote the healthy development of the Gallium Oxide industry.

      The rapid development of Journal of Synthetic Crystal in recent years cannot be separated from the strong support of the editorial board and the majority of scientific and technological personnel in the industry, especially the role of the editorial board and the young editorial board cannot be ignored. Prof. Cunxin Huang and Academician Shining Zhu expressed their sincere gratitude to the scientific and technological personnel who have supported, cared and paid attention to the development of Journal of Synthetic Crystal, to the Hangzhou Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics which has supported the successful holding of the symposium, to the experts and scholars who have participated in the symposium and to the guest editors and contributors who have supported the organization and planning of the topic.
