Supercapacitors (SCs) are widely utilized as a promising option for energy storage due to their superior power density compared to batteries, despite their lower energy density. Hence, electrode materials are crucial aspects of the SC in boosting energy storage efficiency. Gallium oxide and hydroxide-based materials (GOHMs) have garnered significant attention in the field of energy storage advancement due to their high theoretical capacitance value, cost-effectiveness, and environmental friendliness. Nonetheless, there is still much room for increasing the electrochemical performance of GOHMs, which might be very beneficial in large-scale commercial SC production. Herein, this review highlights GOHMs, their composites, and emerging derivatives for SC applications. Also, this work summarizes the various synthesis approaches of GOHMs with their merits and demerits. Besides, the challenges faced by GOHMs and their derivatives for SCs are summarized, and strategies to enhance their performance are suggested. This review aims to serve as a helpful compass for guiding the development of GOHMs and their derivatives in the future.
