【Breaking News】Results of the 2025 Election for Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering Announced! (Full List Included)

      Today (21st), the results of the 2025 academician elections for the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) were officially announced. A total of 144 scholars were elected this year, further optimizing the age structure, disciplinary distribution, regional representation, and industry layout of the academicians.

      In 2025, 73 scholars were elected as CAS academicians, including:

      ●14 from the Division of Mathematics and Physics

      ●11 from the Division of Chemistry

      ●13 from the Division of Life Sciences and Medicine

      ●9 from the Division of Earth Sciences

      ●11 from the Division of Information Technology Science

      ●15 from the Division of Technological Sciences

      The newly elected academicians have an average age of 57.2, with the youngest being 44 and the oldest 66. Academicians aged 60 and below account for 67.1%. A total of 5 female scientists were elected. The structure of the academician cohort has been further optimized. After this election, CAS has 908 academicians in total.

      In addition, 27 new foreign academicians of CAS were elected in 2025, from 15 countries, marking a broader international distribution. CAS now has 173 foreign academicians.

      In 2025, 71 scholars were elected as CAE academicians, including:

      ●11 from the Division of Mechanical and Vehicle Engineering

      ●9 from the Division of Information and Electronic Engineering

      ●10 from the Division of Chemical, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering

      ●12 from the Division of Energy and Mining Engineering

      ●7 from the Division of Civil, Hydraulic and Architectural Engineering

      ●6 from the Division of Environmental and Textile Engineering

      ●8 from the Division of Agricultural Engineering

      ●8 from the Division of Medical and Health Engineering

      Among the newly elected CAE academicians this year, 8 are female scientists. The new cohort also includes a number of experts undertaking major national defense and security missions, several leading innovators from private technology enterprises, and six outstanding experts deeply rooted in western and remote regions. After this election, CAE now has 1002 academicians.

      Additionally, 24 new foreign academicians of the CAE were elected in 2025. Following this election, the CAE has a total of 148 foreign academicians.
