Sichuan University is a national key university, directly attached to the Ministry of Education. . It is a high-level research comprehensive university in the western China, and a national "double first-class" construction university (Class A). Sichuan University is located in Chengdu, a famous historical and cultural capital city of Sichuan Province, known as the land of abundance. It consists of three campuses:Wangjiang, Huaxi and Jiang'an, covering an area of 470 hectares and boasting 2.515 million square meters of floor space. The university campuses, with their favorable environment and beautiful landscape, make a wonderful place for learning and research.
Sichuan University enjoys a long tradition in education and boasts many renowned scholars. Over the past century, the university has attracted masters such as historian Gu Jiegang, writer Li Jieren, esthetician Zhu Guangqian, physicist Wu Dayou, botanist Fang Wenpei, public health expert C. C. CHEN, and mathematician Ke Zhao. The administrators of the university include some of the most important names in contemporary China, Wu Yuzhang and Zhang Lan, for example. Among the outstanding alumni are Zhu De, one of the founding fathers of the People's Republic of China, Yang Shangkun, a former Chairman of China, GuoMoruo and Ba Jin, both renowned writers, as well as national hero Jiang Zhujun. 70 members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering were also alumni of the Sichuan University.
Sichuan university school of physics is one of the largest and oldest of Sichuan university college, by the original Sichuan university physics institute and nuclear science and technology (720), the original applied physics of Chengdu university of science and technology and atomic and molecular physics institute and the original west China medical university of huaxi basic medical physics teaching and research section in July 2001. The college now has three departments (Department of Physics, Department of Nuclear Engineering and Nuclear Technology, Department of Microelectronics), two teaching centers (Center for Teaching Basic Physics and Center for Experimental Basic Physics), and two research institutes (Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology and Institute of Atomic and Molecular Physics).
In the past five years, the College of Physics of Sichuan University has undertaken dozens of national key research and development programs, key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, national major special funds and national science and technology support plans, with an average annual research expenditure of about 75 million yuan, and in 2021, the research expenditure exceeded 84 million yuan. At the same time, the college is the undertaking and participating unit of the national program such as the National Key Research and Development Program, International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor(ITER), Inertial Confinement Fusion(ICF), Jinping Mountain Deep Earth Science Laboratory and Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory(LHAASO) and other national programs. The college has won nearly 30 national, ministerial, provincial and municipal scientific research awards. In the past five years, the college has published 3 papers in important academic journals at home and abroad, and more than 670 high-level papers in Nature sub-journals, PNAS, Phy. Rev.Lett., etc. The College of Physics of Sichuan University has become one of the important bases for scientific research and talent training in physics and related disciplines in China.
Predecessor of Department of Microelectronics, established in 1958, was Semiconductor Physics and Devices, now it is part of "Key Laboratory of Radiation Physics and Application, Ministry of Education" , where the Sichuan Provincial Key Laboratory of Microelectronics Technology and the Sino-British Joint Institute of New Materials are established. It has microelectronics planar process laboratory, analysis and testing laboratory for microelectronic devices and integrated circuit design laboratory. The major of Microelectronics Science and Engineering is a national first-class undergraduate major. At present, the design, irradiation effect, radiation resistance reinforcement and device reliability of wide-band gap semiconductor devices is one of the main research directions of the Department of Microelectronics, which has been supported by many national, provincial and horizontal projects.
