Tiangong University (TGU) is a state-run full-time institution of higher education, which is jointly established by the national Ministry of Education and Tianjin Municipal Government. The university has a long history with its earliest departments established in 1912. It was not renamed as “Tianjin Polytechnic University” until the year 2000. In the year 2017 and 2022, the university was selected as the national “Double First-Class” discipline construction university. In 2018, it was approved as a university jointly built by the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense and Tianjin Municipality.
The School of Electronics and Information Engineering, Tiangong University currently has two first-level disciplines: Information and Communication Engineering and Electronic Science and Technology. The School has doctoral degree program of electronic information major, master programs in first-level disciplines of information and communication engineering, and electronic science and technology, and master programs of electronic information major (new generation of electronic information technology (including quantum technology), communication engineering, integrated circuit).
The School has a strong faculty force, with one obtainer of National Outstanding Youth Funds, one professor of "Cheungkong Scholars Program" , one listed in Leading Talents in Technological Innovation “100,000 Strong”, one Innovation Personnel of Ministry of Science and Technology, one Outstanding Scholars from Jinmen, two special professors of Tianjin City, one listed in Tianjin Innovative Talent Promotion Plan, Leading Talents in Science and Technology Innovation for Middle and Young People, 21 innovative talents in “131 program of Tianjin”.
The School has the Research Institute of Quantum Materials and Devices and many teaching and scientific research platforms such as High-power Semiconductor Lighting Application System of the Engineering Research Center of the Ministry of Education, Tianjin Key Laboratory of Optoelectronic Detection Technology and System, Tianjin Medical Electronic Diagnosis and Treatment Engineering Center, Tianjin Semiconductor Lighting Technology and Engineering Center, Tianjin Intelligent Transportation Equipment and Safety Monitoring Technology Engineering Center, Tianjin International Joint Research Center of Intelligent Information Processing Technology, Tianjin International Joint Research Center for Semiconductor Photonics, Tianjin Electronic Information Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, Huawei ICT College etc.
The School has 5 teaching departments ---- the Department of Electronic Information Engineering, the Department of Communications Engineering, the Department of Electronic Science and Technology, Electrical and Electronic Basic Teaching Department and Municipal Teaching Experiment and Demonstration Center. The School has been approved key disciplines of comprehensive investment in the 11th Five-Year, the 12th Five-Year and 13th Five-Year Plan. The School has three undergraduate majors: Electronic Information Engineering, Communication Engineering and Electronic Science and Technology, among which, Electronic Information Engineering, Electronic Science and Technology have been approved as the national first-class undergraduate major, and Communication Engineering has been approved as the first-class undergraduate major in Tianjin. The Electronic Information Engineering major and the Communication Engineering major passed the International Engineering Education certification in 2018 and 2020 respectively, and the Communication Engineering major was approved as the Sino-Foreign Cooperation Program of the Ministry of Education (University of Wollongong, Australia). At present, there are more than 2,000 students, including more than 300 graduate students.
Achievement
The Semiconductor Technical Team of Tiangong University conducted research on high-performance gallium oxide materials and power devices, focusing on making breakthroughs in common key technologies such as large-size gallium oxide heteroextension, high voltage and low loss power device design and micro-nano processing technology, high reliability and low parasitic inductance packaging and other key technologies.
