      After eight hours, the powder can "grow" into a two-inch crystal of Gallium Oxide.

      "At present, the company's production lines for Gallium Oxide crystal materials are concentrated in the workshop on the first floor. These single crystal materials are the cornerstone of a new generation of wide band gap semiconductor materials. Three months later, the company's new plant will be put into operation, and the first professional production line for Gallium Oxide single crystal substrates and epitaxial wafers will be built in China." Bao Senchuan, assistant general manager of Hangzhou Fujia Gallium Industry Co., LTD., introduced science to us.

      With the continuous development of electronic information technology, semiconductor materials have undergone several generations of changes. Gallium Oxide, which is the representative of the fourth generation of new semiconductor materials, has the advantages of wide band gap, high electron mobility, high stability, etc., and has great application potential in the fields of high voltage power devices and ultraviolet photodetection.

      Founded in 2019, Fujia Gallium Industry has seized this development opportunity and become a national high-tech enterprise engaged in the research and development, production and sales of Gallium Oxide single crystal substrate and epitaxial wafer.

      However, as a start-up enterprise, Fujia Gallium Industry has been faced with the problem of lack of technology and talents at the beginning of its establishment. "The industrialization of Gallium Oxide single crystal products started late in China, with less experience and equipment to learn from, and the process and equipment need to be researched and developed." For example, the crystal is easy to cleavage during processing, which has become a key technical problem restricting the stable mass production of products. "In recent years, the enterprise relies on the photoelectric laser industry collaborative innovation and entrepreneurship center built by HANGZHOU INSTITUTE OF OFTICS AND FINE MECHANICS(SIOM-H) to find solutions, and successfully received experts to help enterprises overcome technical problems and promote the industrialization process."

      As the first hard technology enterprise established by SIOM-H, Fujia Gallium Industry broke through the cleavage problem of Gallium Oxide crystals under the help of collaborative innovation model. After the realization of mass production, it can bring economic benefits of 5 million yuan per year.

      At SIOM-H, we visited the Optoelectronic Laser Industry Collaborative Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center which Mr. Bao Senchuan said.

      Inside one of the LABS, researchers carefully place a thin film into the bowl of an X-ray diffractometer. Close the protective door and the probe begins. At the connected computer end, the crystallinity, cell parameters, reflectivity and other parameters of the film are clearly displayed.

      Here a whole layer of laser and optical characteristics characterization public service platform, gathered optical performance, electrical/thermal performance, structural component performance, femtosecond laser processing, optical materials trial production and other service projects, for the start-up project to provide scientific research equipment, testing facilities and other support, to help enterprises tackle a number of major technical problems.

 

"A beam of light", activate an industry

 

      Working together to tackle key problems and incubate enterprises is just the beginning. With the accumulation of "light" pursuers and the increase of incubation enterprises, the aggregation effect of SIOM-H is constantly strengthening.

      During the visit to the incubated enterprises of SIOM-H, we found that the convergence of dots of light is colliding with new sparks.

      In Fujia Gallium Industry, we saw that the company and another incubator of Hangzhou Optical Machinery Company -- Heng Mai Optics and Fine Mechanics (Hang Zhou) Co., Ltd are jointly developing crystal growth equipment. At the same time, YINHU Laser is also developing crystal cutting equipment with Fujia Gallium industry...

      In the view of several business leaders, platform enterprises cooperate in the research and development of equipment, can accelerate the iteration of equipment, while strong confidentiality, can accelerate the development of the process. We can also declare intellectual property rights individually or cooperatively according to the research and development situation.

      "With one technology field as the core, intensive cultivation in the photoelectric industry, rather than multiple technology fields, enterprises can complement each other, each other's upstream and downstream, and it is easier to form the depth and breadth of industrial agglomeration." This is the logic of SIOM-H to help the development of the optoelectronic industry.

      Outside the platform, "this light" is illuminating a larger industrial landscape and attracting more innovative resource elements. In the past five years, this "light" is activating an industry that has grown from scratch. With SIOM-H as the core, the local not only gradually formed a photoelectric industry chain, to promote Fuyang photoelectric industry upgrading and achievement transformation into the fast lane, to achieve large-scale growth.

      Previously, SIOM-H was selected as the first proof of concept center in Hangzhou, and the experts of its technical committee not only selected projects for their own platform, but also assisted the local government in the investment of the photoelectric industry, helping related industries to complete technical breakthroughs, and constantly radiating its technical advantages in the photoelectric industry to Hangzhou and even the entire Yangtze River Delta region.

      At the same time, a set of scientific and technological achievements transformation system that can be replicated across industries and regions is playing a role. In Taizhou, Zhejiang Province, the local investment of 2.8 billion yuan to establish the same model of new research and development institutions, there are now four high-quality projects settled.

      Qi Hongji hopes that the value brought to Hangzhou by SIOM-H is not only to incubate dozens of scientific and technological innovation enterprises, but also to establish a "base", so that the exploration and practice of these years can be precipated into a set of replicable models, and really graft a bridge between "high-tech" and "industrialization".

      We expect that this "light" by the bank of the Fuchun River can burst out greater energy and radiate a more distant future.
